My wonderful 86 year old father- in- law, a war hero in a B17 bomber, is fading away before my eyes. Lawyer, wonderful dad, good soul he had a stroke that left him dizzy for a while but left all of his faculties- cognition. Nonetheless, like most of us, he fears death and he has PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) from his war days and now his stroke. The result is that he is depressed, keeps his head down, does not really sleep, is not eating (starving with weight loss each day), complains... Continue reading ...

What this means is a DRAMATIC drop in Medicare if rates are fixed for 5 years and inflation in medical costs continue.Add to this horror the notion that the feds COULD cut rates 21%! Keep in mind that the feds SAY they want more preventive care and an emphasis on primary care which saves lives and cuts costs but any of these "fixes"would essentially KILL primary care by cutting the docs that make the LEAST amount of $ from Medicare. The domino effect is already happening throughout AZ. Many... Continue reading ...

ALWAYS discuss what I say with your doctor! I am NOT trying to treat or diagnose- just give you information that you may have missed or I did not have time to educate you during my show.
NO data to support weight loss with Acai Vit D3 for back pain - talk to your doc but up to 3,000IU is safe. So many in my practice are Vut D deficient. Your doc should check your levels. It's a simple blood test! I use High dose Vit C (IV), my Vit C cream and acupuncture for facial rejuvenation and the IV Vit C ... Continue reading ...

A urinary tract infection (UTI) occurs when certain bacteria invade the urinary tract. Symptoms may include itching, burning, and painful urination.Women are most susceptible to these infections because of how they are "plumbed". Diagnosis of a UTI can be performed quickly and easily in a doctor's office or medical laboratory using a specimen of the patient's urine Here are some reasons women might get these infections:
- Wiping from back to front after a bowel movement.
- Having sex.
- Wear...

Below is a listing of seasonal (influenza A and B) flu vaccines.Did your doctor discuss these with you? Did you consider these possible adverse reactions and the actual (proven) benefits of the vaccine? Did your doctor give you a WRITTEN sheet with the PROVEN benefits of the vaccine? I truly doubt it, because very little has been PROVEN. If this is true of a vaccine that has been around a long time, how much do you think the feds REALLY know about the H1N1 vaccine?
Flu Vaccine FluMist
Infl... Continue reading ...

I am seeing more and more patients who have seen other "natural" providers who load the consumer up with LOTS of herbs and vitamins. One patient that I saw recently was taking 18 different products each with multiple herbs and vitamins inside. When I counted all that she was taking, she was consuming 138 different substances and was overdosing on Vitamin A! First, if it is natural does NOT maen it is safe! Next, how can ANYONE possibly determine the intercations between so many substances. Thi... Continue reading ...

I want a REAL healthcare reform. Not one that is another "do as I say- not as I do". Well before the elections I showed you in this blog Mr Obama- "Now you're smoking!" He still smokes but tells us about how WE should live our life. It is NOT a small thing that he can't stop smoking, but his healthcare reform would be biased against smokers. Now we have a surgeon general who is LARGE! I have no problem with this- except the US needs to wage a war on obesity which is the most costly disease we... Continue reading ...

This is my list of “must haves” for your home in this flu and cold season that has already begun. I do NOT think that it is clear at all as to the actual benefits of the flu vaccine. I have not seen any substantive evidence that the flu vaccine (for “regular” flu- A and B) has decreased mortality in anyone- let alone seniors and in some studies (like kids with asthma who had been vaccinated) actually increased hospitalizations when compared to those children who were NOT vaccinated... Pedicures can be dangerous- spreading infections. Here's some safety tips that you should NOT forget:
- Schedule one of the first appointments in the morning when tubs are cleanest. Or make sure your technician disinfects the tub before your pedicure.
- Bring your own pedicure tools. Use separate tools for pedicures and manicures to prevent contamination between toes and fingers.
- Skip shaving your legs before the appointment to help prevent bacteria from entering the skin.
- Have your feet...

Choosing A Doctor Part 2: First Test
On Sunday, you fall on a rock and hurt your ankle. It's swollen and painful. You can (choose one):
a. Go to an Emergency Room on Sunday. Pay a big copay or deductible depending on your insurance. Wait in a room with coughing and screaming people for 2 hours and then be seen. An emergency room doctor who will not see you ever again wants to be sure not to miss anything. You get a shot for pain, a tetanus shot, X-rays, MR or CT scan, some kind of wa... Continue reading ...

The following is my list that I suggest for colds and the flu. There is NO guarantee or ANY research about the use of these products to prevent or treat the flu although they MAY attenuate symptoms once you have knowingly been infected. More will be learned about the "new" Swine flu that is already in Mexico and the U.S. and appears to be spreading so I will update this blog in this regard with my comments. Unlike SARS which was never a global threat of pandemic proportions to humans, this fl... Continue reading ...

We all know that physicians hide when a lawyer enters the room. The relationship between physicians and lawyers as a result of medical malpractice law suits is fabled and seemingly still discussed trembling with fear and filled with disdain at every opportunity by doctors. Every morning when I turn on the TV news, I see at least one (if not several) ads inviting viewers who have been exposed to asbestos, who want to recover as much as they can from accidents and who are fighting for disabilit... Adult primary care providers (PCP's-Family Doctors and Internists) are paid 55% of what reimbursement is typically for specialists Yet, specialists (cardiologists, radiologists, surgeons, etc.) increase the cost of care, increase the number of hospitalizations, and utilize pharmaceuticals in greater numbers, DECREASE lifespan and quality of life. PCP's, on the other hand, INCREASE length of life, DECREASE mortality and decrease all the other parameters I just mentioned like hospitalizations, ... Continue reading ...
