What to Expect for Your First Primary Care Visit

First time patients are often surprised at how much time and personal attention they receive from me. I am not the type of doctor who wants to see 110 patients a day for ten minutes each. I want to be able to get to know YOU, not your medical chart. If you are coming to see me as a General Practitioner, (Link to Areas of Focus) your first visit typically lasts 75 minutes with me directly. During this visit, we will discuss all aspects of your health and lifestyle so that I may better understand you as a complete individual. Please arrive at least 30 minutes prior to your appointment time to fill out important paper work, such as your medical history. If you would prefer to fill out these documents in the privacy of your own home, please download and complete the following forms prior to your arrival:

What to Expect for Your First Acute Visit

If you are a new patient and you are seeing me for the first time for an acute visit such as a cold, bronchitis, stomach ache that has just arisen, etc., we will typically only speak for about 15 minutes. The reason for this is that you are asking me to diagnose a specific aspect of your person, not advise you on your health overall. While this initial meeting may be targeted and brief, I encourage you to come back and see me for your overall health, especially if your current challenge is part of an ongoing medical problem. Together, we may be able to cure or prevent the problem, rather than treating the symptoms or outbreak.

*Please be aware that I frequently employ CAM for acute visits because it is often effective and safe when compared with conventional therapies. CAM is not usually covered by insurance or reimbursable. To learn more about Frequently Asked Insurance Questions, please click here.

What to Expect for Your Second Visit

Your second visit is typically a follow up of suggestions and lab tests based on our discussions during your first visit. It is usually scheduled to last 45 minutes, and focuses on solving your unique challenges. Please be aware that I practice integrative medicine which blends Conventional Medicine with Complementary Alternative (Natural) Medicine (CAM). While Conventional Medicine is generally covered by your insurance, CAM is NOT. To learn more about Frequently Asked Insurance Questions, please click here.
